Fabregas hoping for early return

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas believes that he will return to action in two weeks after suffering an injury while netting the freak goal at Sunderland on Saturday.

The Spain midfielder scored early in the first half when his tackle for the ball which was kicked into him by Anton Ferdinand, looped over 40 yards into the goal.

But Fabregas wrote on his official Twitter account: "Good news on my injury. I have some fluid but nothing bad in the muscle. I hope I can be playing in two weeks."

After helping Spain to their World Cup glory this summer, the 23-year-old has been in scintillating form of late.

With Theo Walcott, Robin van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner all still sidelined, the loss of another key man for a lengthy period would have come as another blow for the Gunners.

Fabregas would not have been included in the squad for tomorrow's game at Tottenham Hotspur, with manager Arsene Wenger again set to use a combination of fringe and youth players in the League Cup.

He is likely to miss Saturday's Premier League encounter with West Bromwich Albion at the Emirates and the UEFA Champions League trip to Partizan three days later, but could be back in contention for the visit to Chelsea on 3 October.
